Our Commitment to Your Maine Coon’s Health

At LEGACY COON CATTERY, the health and well-being of our Maine Coons are our top priority. We take great care to breed responsibly, ensuring that every kitten we produce is healthy, happy, and ready to become a beloved part of your family. We stand behind the health of our cats and offer a comprehensive health guarantee to provide you peace of mind when you welcome one of our Maine Coons into your home.

What Our Health Guarantee Covers

1. Genetic Health Guarantee

We guarantee that all of our kittens are free from major genetic defects that are commonly known to affect the Maine Coon breed, including but not limited to:

  • Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM)

  • Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD)

  • Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)

Our breeding cats undergo comprehensive health testing, including DNA screening and veterinary exams, to ensure that they are not carriers of these hereditary conditions. This is why we offer a 2-year genetic health guarantee for every kitten we breed.

If your kitten is diagnosed with a hereditary genetic condition covered by this guarantee within the first two years of life, we will provide a replacement kitten of equal value or a refund (at our discretion). The kitten must be returned to us for veterinary evaluation, and a written diagnosis from a licensed veterinarian is required.

2. Health Certificate and Vet Exam

Before your kitten leaves our care, they will receive a full veterinary exam. This includes vaccinations, deworming, and a general health checkup to ensure they are in top condition. All of our kittens come with:

  • A Health Certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian

  • Proof of vaccinations and deworming (appropriate for their age)

  • A microchip (optional, but recommended for identification)

We encourage you to take your kitten for a follow-up vet checkup within 72 hours of receiving them. This helps ensure that your new kitten is settling in well and is healthy in their new home.

3. 14-Day Health Guarantee

We provide a 14-day health guarantee starting from the day you receive your kitten. During this period, if your kitten is diagnosed with a contagious illness (such as feline leukemia or feline immunodeficiency virus), we will offer a full refund or a replacement kitten.

This guarantee covers contagious diseases, but does not apply to conditions resulting from poor care or an unsafe environment after the kitten leaves our care.

Health and Wellness Responsibility

While we take every step to ensure your kitten is healthy before they leave us, their continued health is also your responsibility. We highly recommend that you:

  • Keep your kitten on a healthy diet (we provide food recommendations)

  • Maintain regular veterinary checkups and vaccinations

  • Follow proper grooming and dental care routines

  • Provide a safe environment (keeping your kitten indoors to protect them from accidents and diseases)

Exclusions to the Health Guarantee

This health guarantee does not cover:

  • Conditions resulting from improper diet, poor care, or environmental factors

  • Illnesses that occur after the 14-day period

  • Accidents, injuries, or trauma that occur after your kitten leaves our care

  • Behavioral issues, unless they are related to a documented health condition

We do not cover the cost of veterinary bills or other expenses incurred by the buyer.

As an additional check and to activate your puppies’ Health Guarantee, we ask that you take your puppy to a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours after you receive the puppy, so we can be sure that your puppy is a happy, healthy one from the moment it arrives at your home.

Who can file a claim?

We certify that all Goldendoodle puppies purchased from us are in perfectly sound health. All our puppies are current on all shots, vaccinations and checks. Only the original purchaser (Buyer) of the puppy can file a claim under this Guarantee. In other words, this guarantee is not transferable to any new owner.
